Phuket Airport arrival guide
From aircraft door to hotel transport: the complete international-arrival sequence at HKT.
Short answer
International arrivals normally follow this order: enter the international terminal, complete passport control, collect baggage, choose the green or red customs channel, then enter the public arrivals hall for SIMs, cash and transport. Complete TDAC before reaching Thailand if it applies to you.
Key facts
- Before flight
- Complete TDAC within the permitted 3-day window
- At HKT
- Passport control → baggage → customs
- Meeting point
- Public arrivals hall after customs
- Time zone
- Thailand time, UTC+7
Before landing
Keep your passport, boarding pass, Phuket accommodation address and onward details easy to reach. Non-Thai nationals generally need a Thailand Digital Arrival Card before entry; use only the Immigration Bureau portal and save the confirmation on your phone.
A TDAC is an arrival card, not a visa. Visa or visa-exemption eligibility remains a separate requirement.
Passport control and baggage
Follow International Arrivals signs to passport control. Use the lane directed by airport or immigration staff and keep the TDAC confirmation available. After clearance, check the flight-information screens for the assigned baggage belt.
Report a missing or damaged bag to the airline handling desk before leaving the reclaim area. Keep the baggage tag attached to your boarding pass until the issue is recorded.
Customs: green or red channel
Use the green channel only when you have nothing to declare. Thai Customs directs passengers carrying taxable, restricted or excess goods to the red channel. Current published allowances include no more than 200 cigarettes or 250 g of tobacco and no more than 1 litre of alcohol.
When uncertain, ask a customs officer before choosing a channel. The linked Customs page is the source to recheck before travel.
After customs
The public arrivals hall contains transport counters and passenger services. Confirm the driver name, vehicle or booking reference before leaving with a private transfer. For app-based rides, follow the pickup instructions shown in the app because designated pickup areas can change.
If you need cash or a SIM, compare the total rate or plan rather than choosing only by the headline price. Keep enough battery and data to contact your accommodation or driver.
Frequently asked questions
Do children need a TDAC?
Yes. The Immigration Bureau says children and infants also require a TDAC when the requirement applies; family submissions can include multiple travellers.
Do I need TDAC when only transiting?
Not when you remain in transit and do not pass through Thai immigration. If you enter Thailand to collect bags or change airports, check the current rule.
Where should a driver meet me?
Agree a named meeting point in the public arrivals hall after customs and keep the driver contact available.
