Phuket Airport baggage guide
Know what stays in cabin baggage and what to do before leaving reclaim when a checked bag is missing or damaged.
Short answer
Report a missing or damaged checked bag to the airline or its ground handler before leaving baggage reclaim. Keep the bag-tag receipt and obtain a report reference. Power banks and spare lithium batteries belong in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage; liquids through security generally use containers no larger than 100 ml.
Key facts
- Missing bag
- Report before leaving reclaim
- Keep
- Baggage-tag receipt and report reference
- Power banks
- Carry-on only, subject to capacity limits
- Cabin liquids
- Containers no larger than 100 ml under security rules
Before check-in
Remove old routing labels, photograph the closed bag and place contact details inside rather than displaying sensitive information prominently outside. Keep medication, documents, keys, valuables and essential first-night items in cabin baggage within airline limits.
Check the operating airline’s size, weight and item restrictions; a codeshare marketing airline may not set the airport handling rule.
Power banks and spare batteries
CAAT treats power banks as spare lithium batteries. They must travel with the passenger or in carry-on baggage and must not be placed in checked baggage. The watt-hour rating must be clearly marked.
Current rules allow up to 100 Wh without operator approval; 101–160 Wh requires airline approval and is limited. Airlines may impose stricter conditions, so confirm before travel.
Cabin liquids
Security rules generally require liquids, aerosols and gels in containers no larger than 100 ml. A partly filled container with a capacity above 100 ml can still be rejected because container capacity controls.
Medicines, infant feeds and duty-free security bags can have specific procedures. Keep supporting documents and follow screening staff instructions.
Missing or damaged checked baggage
Check nearby belts and the airline information screen, then contact the handling desk while still in reclaim. Provide the bag tag, boarding pass, bag description and a reliable local address and contact number.
Photograph damage before leaving. A verbal conversation without a written reference can make follow-up harder; retain the property-irregularity or damage report and the airline claim instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Can a power bank go in checked baggage?
No. CAAT requires power banks to remain with the passenger or in carry-on baggage, subject to capacity and airline limits.
Is a half-full 200 ml bottle allowed through security?
Generally no. The capacity printed on the container matters, not only the amount remaining.
Who handles a bag left on the aircraft?
Contact the airline. For a checked bag missing from the belt, report it to the airline or ground handler before leaving reclaim.
