HKT layout: international vs domestic terminal
International flights use the international terminal: arrivals clear immigration and collect bags on Level 1, departures check in at rows A–H on Level 2 and pass security and passport control there. This is the side of the airport where the queues form — and where the escort earns its fee.
The domestic terminal is a single-level building with check-in rows J–M and gates B1–B12, connected to the international terminal by a covered walkway of about five minutes. Domestic passengers never pass immigration, which is why we honestly advise most domestic travellers to skip the service.
Connecting at HKT
Phuket is mostly an origin-and-destination airport with a modest flow of passengers connecting between international and domestic flights, so we cover connections here rather than on a separate page. The two terminals are linked by the covered walkway, and the physical transfer itself is short.
Arriving internationally with a domestic onward flight means completing the full entry sequence first — immigration, baggage claim and customs — then walking to the domestic terminal and checking in again unless the airline has confirmed your bags are checked through. An arrival escort covers that entry leg; a separate departure booking covers a later international departure. Leave generous time between separately ticketed flights: no escort can recover a connection that was too short on paper.
